Dr. Barbara Piatti

Barbara Piatti (*1973) holds a PhD in Literature Studies. She has spent several research periods at universities abroad (Stanford, Kiel and Prague). Since 2006 she is the chair of the 'Literary Atlas of Europe' at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). The Literary Atlas is a project she has initiated and which employs several researchers, both literary scholars and cartographers.

2010/2011 she has been a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, Center for Advanced Study.

She is vice-chair of the "Art & Cartography" committee as part of the International Cartographic Association. She has realised several projects outside academia (e.g. "Schnitzeljagd! Ein Fest für Wissenschaft, Kunst und Handwerk", 2010 and 2011) and has been an advisor for several institutions. She has worked for universities and with professionals from various backgrounds, among others graphic designers, editors, radio and tv journalists and  theatre professionals.

Barbara Piatti is the Author of several monographies, e.g. »Rousseaus Garten. Eine kleine Kulturgeschichte zur St. Peterinsel« (2001), »Tells Theater. Eine Kulturgeschichte in fünf Akten zu Friedrich Schillers Wilhelm Tell« (2004) and »Die Geographie der Literatur. Schauplätze, Handlungsräume, Raumphantasien« (2008).  She has been invited to give more than 30 conference papers in Switzerland, several European countries, in the USA and in Australia.
